Sustainability

Our Strategy

EuroEnergy prioritizes investments that contribute to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 7 and 13, supporting access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all, and taking action to combat climate change.

By growing our renewable asset portfolio organically and through M&A transactions, we work to advance the transition to green energy, while ensuring adherence to the highest sustainability standards.

We have conducted a materiality assessment with stakeholders to identify priority topics in sustainability and social impact, which forms the basis of our sustainability strategy. We set targets and review progress on these to ensure we are contributing a positive impact to the communities in which we operate.

Environment

Advancing renewable energy

EuroEnergy is dedicated to a stable supply of renewable energy through operational optimization, responsible growth, and geographical expansion.

Waste management

We adhere to high environmental standards to prevent pollution and protect nature. Acknowledging that renewable energy assets can produce hazardous materials, we implement efficient waste management and focus on end-of-life issues, including recycling decommissioned solar panels during PV retrofits.

Biodiversity

We prioritize biodiversity through risk mitigation and proactive initiatives, ensuring best practices are kept during permitting, construction, and operation. We engage in projects that promote balanced ecosystems, integrating renewable projects with the environment.

Sustainability Initiatives

Beyond supporting the green transition through our core business, we continuously explore new sustainable solutions in our operations. Below are two related case studies.

Installation of barn owl nests in solar projects

We integrate nature with renewable energy, establishing green parks that foster ecosystems and support barn owls, key to natural pest control in agriculture. Our collaboration with "TYTO" involves placing nesting boxes for these owls in our solar parks, promoting their population growth and ecological balance. This approach aligns with global practices, significantly reducing rodenticide use and its environmental impact, while protecting crops and preventing ecosystem disruption.

Agrivoltaics

By incorporating sheep grazing within our solar parks in Greece, we optimize land use and contribute to sustainable agriculture. This natural grass management system eliminates the need for mechanical mowing and harmful herbicides, reducing fire hazards and environmental contamination. Additionally, it expands grazing territory for livestock, fostering community development by providing local farmers with grazing land. Sheep, with their ideal size for navigating solar arrays, play a pivotal role in maintaining panel efficiency and contribute to an eco-friendly cycle of growth and energy production.

Social Impact

Inclusive  Employment
EuroEnergy prioritizes local hiring, and we safeguard human rights in the workplace by offering fair wages and employee benefits while ensuring workforce diversity and inclusion. Additionally, by investing in cutting-edge technologies, we offer employment opportunities for professionals in specialized fields.

Learning and Development
Fostering a culture of constant learning and accountability, EuroEnergy provides opportunities for its employees to acquire the required skills in their field and enhance their abilities to progress in their careers.

Health & Safety
Employees’ health and safety is a priority. Through trainings on safety issues, we have no injuries involving direct or indirect employees. We also provide access to healthcare resources for all employees and their families to support their physical well-being.

Human Rights
We recognize the importance of human rights as a critical aspect of sustainable development and are guided by the Greek Law 4443/2016 of equal treatment and non-discrimination in employment and by the UN Guiding Principles and UK Modern Slavery Act 2015.

Community Engagement
EuroEnergy follows UN environmental regulations and conducts ecological impact assessments for its project ecosystems. We also engage with local communities in order to gather feedback and adjust our strategy when required. We partner with other organizations to strengthen our actions towards the adverse impacts on biodiversity and local communities.

Drone Pilot Training

EuroEnergy engineers have attended the “Introduction to Dhalion” course by Perceptual Robotics in Bristol, which trains and certifies them to inspect in-house wind blades and solar panels using their own Dhalion drone and PV thermal cameras.

Through the Dhalion system, EuroEnergy can carry out thorough turbine inspections, collecting first-rate data from turbines in less than 20 minutes, which allows us to quickly evaluate and track the progress of any damage on our turbines over multiple inspections.

Enabling the autonomous implementation of drone inspections ensures that we can keep our turbines at maximum output, increase safety, and cut costs.

Blade Care Academy

Members of our technical department have previously attended the “Advanced Rotor Blade Technology” training by Blade Care Academy in Prenzlau, Germany.

Through the Rotor Blade certification, our technical team is qualified to perform in-house blade inspections by thoroughly understanding wind turbines and rotor blades, identifying and addressing potential issues promptly and efficiently.

Participation in the Libra Internship Program

EuroEnergy has participated in the Libra Internship Program since 2012. This paid internship program gives young students and professionals the opportunity to acquire tangible work experience.

The internship program has placed 23 interns at EuroEnergy across the Athens, Latvia, and London offices since 2012, where 5 intern alumni have also been hired full-time.
